Description

The Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park is a national park that straddles the border of the Northern Cape and Botswana, and offers grassy plains populated with ample wildlife and sparse vegetation. An amalgamation of the Kalahari Gemsbok National Park in South Africa (proclaimed in 1931) and the Gemsbok National Park in Botswana, the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park covers over 3,6 million hectares – one of the few conservation areas of this magnitude left in the world.

With expansive open plains and striking sand dunes, Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park provides excellent game viewing and photographic opportunities. Herds of gemsbok, springbok, eland, and blue wildebeest are beautifully displayed against burgundy waves of sand while the imposing camel thorn trees often reveal the resting place of black-mane Kalahari lions, leopards, and raptors. The park is famous for its birds of prey and birders will be spoilt with sightings of pygmy falcons preying on weaver colonies.
