Description

Tenikwa Wildlife Rehabilitation & Awareness Centre is located on the scenic Garden Route. Declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, The Garden Route is one of the world’s most bio-diverse hotspots, sustaining forty three percent of South Africa’s plant and animal life withover thirty terrestrial habitat types. Tenikwa is a non-profit, conservation-orientated organisation that rehabilitates wild animals and raises awareness about the impact that habitat loss, human-wildlife conflict and unsustainable practices is having on South Africa’s indigenous wildlife.

Wildcat Experience

Join us on a 1 hour guided Wild Cat tour to learn about the indigenous wild cats of South Africa. See African Wild Cats, Servals, Caracals, Cheetahs, Lions and our Leopard, as well as other wildlife such as meerkats marabou storks and much, much more!

This is a unique opportunity to get close to some amazing wild cats as well as other unique creatures, and learn about their struggle to survive in the wild.

You will be taken into the habitats of the various cats, and where, for safety reasons, this is not possible, a walkway will give you opportunity to see and photograph the wild cats whilst your guide explains interesting information about the species and their role in promoting biodiversity.

The program includes a visit pass our Penguin Pool where you have the opportunity to learn more about the marine conservation work that Tenikwa is involved with and a window into the Wildlife Rehabilitation work that we do.

Photographic Adventure

The Photographic Adventure affords you the opportunity to experience the best of the best by enjoying the experience of photographing our cheetahs in magnificent Cape Floral Fynbos during their daily enrichment time out, as well as a leisurely exclusive tour of the centre to see and photograph the rest of our indigenous cats of South Africa in natural setting.

This program is geared towards the photographic adventure enthusiast as well as guests who would like to spend more time with the cats without the pressure of being in a group tour. It affords ample time and opportunity to photograph Africa’s wild cats in a natural setting and time enough to appreciate the beauty of the cats.

The Photographic Adventure is divided into two sections with a complimentary beverage and light refreshments included.

Wildways

Discover fascinating facts about fynbos, its relationship to the indigenous Tsitsikamma forests and its cultural uses in the local community during a short wild walk. Learn how a simple moth contributed to the upliftment of the area and the building of an historical church still in use today as a cornerstone of the Kurland Community.

Along the way, the guides will prepare you for a chance to observe the cheetahs as your paths cross in the fynbos. Get ready to take some amazing photographs as the cheetah passes by, enjoying their special time of the day. A scrumptious bush picnic overlooking the indigenous Tsitsikamma Forest completes this section of the program.

After being escorted back to the centre for a short break, the guides will take you on a guided tour of the facility and its permanent residents that call Tenikwa home, to photograph and learn about the indigenous wild cats of South Africa and how they are adapting to a changing world.

During this program, you will see African Wild Cats, Servals, Caracals, Cheetahs, Leopard, Lions as well as a variety of local wildlife and learn about the rehabilitation work that Tenikwa does, returning wild animals back to nature where they belong.
