Valley Of Desolation

Description

The Valley of Desolation is a premier tourist destination located in the 19,500 hectare Camdeboo National Park near the Karoo town of Graaff-Reinet, Eastern Cape. The sheer cliff face is a geological phenomenon caused by volcanic and erosive forces of nature over 100 million years, rising nearly 120m from the valley floor.

The Valley of Desolation was declared a Scenic National Monument in 1935, and is a mecca for hikers, photographers, and nature lovers. The road to the top of the valley was tarred in 1978, offering visitors easy access to a number of viewpoints. There are plenty of hiking trails for the adventurous.
