On Wednesday, 27 March 2013, Rooiberg Winery in the picturesque Breede River Valley is officially launching its new landmark – THE BIGGEST CHAIR IN AFRICA. Highly acclaimed for its outstanding wines, Rooiberg Winery is now also an unmissable tourist attraction on the R60 between Worcester and Robertson.
From 10am – 5pm, the public and media are invited to join in the celebrations and see three of South Africa’s most famous singers, namely Danie Niehaus, Christo Snyman, and Cobus Snyman, “camping out” on the chair during the day. Enjoy the festive atmosphere with music, food, and wine tastings. You’ll also have the chance to climb on the 9m chair (the seat is 4.5m from the ground) to meet the artists and take pictures from the dizzying height for the photo competition. And just to make sure your visit atop the chair is a most comfortable and unhurried experience, the chair is decked with its own restaurant table and chairs.
The new landmark will be launched together with the RED CHAIR wine range, which can be tasted by the public for the first time. Only two wines are available in the range at the moment and both will be on offer at a 20% discount on Thursday, 27 March only. These include the Sauvignon Blanc De Lite, a low alcohol Sauvignon Blanc; and Bean There Pinotage, a “coffee” Pinotage.
For the private media launch on the evening of 27 March, the three artists will be performing ON the chair – easily the highest stage in South Africa.
Why a chair?
Not surprisingly, a monumental chair like this is a well-known landmark for several tourist destinations around the world. A quick google for “biggest chairs in the world” will bring up many different kinds of chairs from the United States, Spain, Italy, Canada, and more.
Marianne Lochner, spokesperson for Rooiberg Winery makes it evident that a chair is a symbol that invites visitors to “come and have a seat”. Here you can rest, relax, and spend time enjoying authentic South African hospitality. So pop in for a wine tasting, have lunch at the Bodega de Vinho restaurant, and take home some freshly baked goods from the bakery.
Rooiberg Winery lies on the R60 between Worcester and Robertson, Western Cape. GPS co-ordinates: Latitude: -33.776389 Longitude: 19.761944. Follow the action on Facebook and Twitter.
