Biggest disappointment.
We booked Treetops because they had very good references on the website. We were on the road for 10 hours yesterday, arrived at Treetops just after 18:00. We were greeted kindly, just put a few things in the room and immediately left to eat something after the long day on the road, not really looking around. Upon returning, we really looked at the place for the first time. The garden is beautiful but... for the price we paid, you expect a clean place and there is quite a cleaning fee as well.
This is an outside room that has been converted into a small unit with which I have no problem. I am always very accommodating, regardless of where we stay, but this is the first time I have to write such a review. The shower inside and outside clearly needs a good scrubbing, the dirt is stuck behind the toilet and there is not even a dishcloth or dishwashing bucket in the kitchen to wash cups. You have to go to the bathroom to pour water into the kettle and into the sink, which is almost an impossible task because the kettle is big and the sink is small and your cups have to be washed in the bathroom sink. The window sills and skylights haven't seen a duster or feather duster in a very long time, the walls and ceiling are full of marks everywhere, the front door doesn't even close properly, with openings below and on the side (hanging sliding door), and can't even lock—it only has a sliding chain. (As a guest, I want to feel safe in a strange environment!) The room door did have a key, but I want to lock the place at night.
The owner lives on the premises, so there's no excuse for her not being able to keep an eye on the cleaners. The shower is simply disgusting. A clean, scrubbed shower is high on my priority list, and this is anything but that, with algae and mold between all the tiles and a floor that could do with a good scrubbing with domestos. The neat photos on your website are not at all reflective of what the place looks like inside. That dirty, stepped on floor in the shower made me feel like something was crawling on me all night. Maintenance and upkeep are last on this place's list. Robin's Nest needs a good paint job and a decent cleaning inside. It's clear that there's been dirt and mold in that shower for a long time and the windowsills in the kitchen and by the toilet where dirt is stuck, it's not just one bad cleaning.
The bedding smelled clean but faded, the photos show neat white bedding and that was definitely not what we got. On top of that, there were long black hairs on the bedding, I was so pissed off. There was also soup from previous guests left in the fridge. There is sugar, tea and coffee—no milk. The sugar was half stuck together and wet in the pot and the sugar spoon had probably been used in coffee by previous guests and was dirty and full of coffee again, and shoved into the sugar bowl. Thank goodness I brought our own supplies.
The blinds are terrible and don't even close the window all the way down, and the curtains are a nightmare to close, because they are on a pipe and you have to stretch properly, because that curtain doesn't slide easily through the pipe—you have to thread one eyelet at a time. The only thing that is nice is the garden, but we don't sleep in the garden and at least expect cleanliness.
After 10 hours on the road you are dead tired, and to look for another place in that time is not an option. We slept terribly badly from anger over the condition, only falling asleep after 2 this morning and had to get up again at 6 o'clock to keep a very important appointment and then again long hours on the way home. There was a person on the floor above us too, wooden floors and until very late it sounded like things were being moved around. I am furious that the owner has no respect for us as paying guests, by offering us a place in that condition and thinking it is ok!
It was not a nice and pleasant experience at all, honestly, and we are terribly disappointed. Supporting photos have been sent to the website
