"2 stars as a town but 4-5 stars as an area destination. Barberton as a town is not worth it. The Barberton area is worth the visit as it is a World Heritage Site, as well as being the beginning of the gold mining era in South Africa."
"Barberton is a fascinating old town, full of recent mining history. The Geo-Trail is a must-see in SA. Well situated to explore the Lowveld."
"Unfortunately, Barberton is run-down due to the municipality not looking after anything. It has so much potential that it could be the next Cape Town."
"With all due respect but Barberton is a dingy place. We won't be back again. For dinner there is in fact only one restaurant: Namaste. The portion is more than huge. The service is 50/50 (the 2nd time we ate there we waited for 55 minutes before we got our meals, in spite of the fact we were the only guests.) So that was that for us."
"The town had been trashed by a strike and was filthy. Sewerage ran in the streets, and the town centre was awful. The geotrail was well-signposted and displayed, but everything is exceedingly run down."
