Calitzdorp is well known for its booming wine industry, situated along the famous Route 62 (the longest wine route in the world). The town of Calitzdorp is steeped in history. Visitors can spend hours exploring the architectural treasures available here. Be sure to stop by Andries Pretorius Street, Church Street, Potgieter Street, Lourens Street, Voortrekker Street, and Queen Street (one of the oldest streets in Calitzdorp ) to view some wonderful old buildings. Also worth a visit is the Dutch Reformed Church which has been declared a national monument, the Calitzdorp Museum, Oude Huis Gallery, St Mark’s Church, and the Gallery Route 62.

Take a drive from Calitzdorp to explore the Cango Caves in Oudtshoorn, the fertile valley of Groenfontein (Green Fountain) in the foothills of the Swartberg mountains, Seweweekspoort with its spectacular quartzite rock formations, and Kruisrivier with the highest peak in the Western Cape at 2325m.

Nature lovers will enjoy hiking through the Gamkaberg Nature Reserve and the Redstone Hills, as well as bird watching in the hills that surround Calitzdorp. Also worth a visit is the nearby Bontebok National Park and Karoo Desert National Botanical Garden. Other activities include the Donkey Trail, dining at the Red Coffee Pot, hanepoot picking at De Krans, free classical organ recitals on weekday evenings, and relaxing in the warm healing waters of Calitzdorp Spa.
