Description

Limpopo Province is the northernmost province of South Africa. Most of the population in Limpopo speak Northern Sotho, but Shangan, Afrikaans, and English are also commonly spoken. Limpopo's capital city, Polokwane, is considered South Africa's premier hunting destination and hosted the recent conference where Jacob Zuma was elected head of South Africa's ruling political party, the ANC.

Limpopo Province is considered the link between South Africa and sub-Saharan Africa, as it shares international borders with three countries: Botswana to the west, Zimbabwe to the north, and Mozambique to the east. The province also share borders with the South African provinces of Mpumalanga, Gauteng, and North West. Its border with Gauteng includes the province's Johannesburg-Pretoria axis, the most industrial metropole on the continent. Thus the province is placed at the centre of regional, national, and international developing markets.

The province contains much of the Waterberg Biosphere, a UNESCO designated Biosphere Reserve of approximately 15 000 square kilometres. The Waterberg ecosystem can be characterised as a dry deciduous forest of Bushveld. Within the Waterberg there are archaeological finds dating to the Stone Age and early evolution finds relating to the origin of humans.
