Description

The Lowveld region is a bush-clad plain that slopes gently upward to the Lebombo Mountains on the Mozambique boundary in the northeast. Experience the Kruger National Park, unforgettable game lodges, spas and health hydros, magnificent Big 5 wildlife, exciting adventure activities, and breath taking panoramas. Lose your heart to this legendary land by booking a memorable stay at one of our Lowveld accommodations.

From day trips to extended tours, the Lowveld is a popular tourist destination with something for everyone. Due to its latitude and proximity to the warm Indian Ocean, the Lowveld enjoys a moderate subtropical climate; making it ideal for outdoor activities all year round. Take on the big swing and enjoy a range of adventures from mountain and quad biking, to horse trails, river rafting, and game viewing.

The world-renown Kruger National Park lies in the heart of Big 5 territory and is the most popular South African game park destination for visitors seeking a premier safari experience. Other major tourist attractions include the Sudwala Caves, Blyde River Canyon, Bourke’s Luck Potholes, and God’s Window.

The various towns in the region have much to offer. The entire village of Pilgrim’s Rest is a national heritage site; Graskop is home to an African Silk farm; Sabie boasts beautiful waterfalls; Marloth Park is a fence-less nature conservancy where wildlife roam freely; and Barberton is home to some of the oldest rocks on earth, with the ancient greenstones and metamorphosed granites forming the Crocodile River Mountains in the south-east of Mpumalanga. Other towns in the Lowveld include Hazyview, White River, Nelspruit, Komatipoort, Sabi Sand, Malelane, Dullstroom, Lydenburg, and Nkomazi.

In 2008, the Lowveld Gourmet Route was formed between Nelspruit and Hazyview. The route features the area’s top four fine dining restaurants, namely Summerfields Kitchen, Oliver’s Restaurant, Orange, and Salt.

The Lowveld National Botanical Garden is shaped by the Crocodile and Nels Rivers that cut across it. Before these two rivers converge in the garden, they form spectacular waterfalls which can be seen from the Cascades and Nels viewpoints. Walk through the enchanting African Rain Forest and cross the Crocodile River along the famous suspended bridge, where the cascading waterfall can also be viewed. The garden plays a critical role in the conservation of rare and endangered species and has played a significant part in establishing the cycad gene bank. It also boasts one of the largest collections of South African fig trees and mystical baobabs.

Discover this land of spectacular contrasts and diversity for yourself. Enjoy warm hospitality in the midst of lush green valleys and echoing waterfalls.
