Mafikeng
Description
Mafikeng, known as the "City of good will", is the capital of the Noth-West province. It is located 260km from Johannesburg on South Africa's border with Botswanna. It has five shopping complexes, 11 banks and the head of offices of many provincial institutions.
Mafikeng was originally headquarters of the Barolong tribe of Behuana. The town was founded in 1880 by British mercenaries when they were granted land by a Barolong chief by the name of Mafikeng, meaning "place of stones" in Tswana.
