Montagu is known as the “mountain mecca” of the Cape, surrounded by the Langeberg mountain range, and characterised by endless orchards, vineyards, rock formations, and healing hot mineral springs. The museum has been declared a national monument, and boasts a collection of oil paintings and drawings by the famous South African artist Francois Krige, as well as an archive filled with a large collection of documents and photographs, relating to the history of Montagu.
