Description

Rondebosch is a leafy suburb at the base of Devil’s Peak in the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town. It is a highly sought-after residential and holiday destination due to its central location and spectacular mountain views. With plenty to do and see, and easy access to the city centre, Rondebosch is the best choice for a Cape Town getaway!

Rondebosch is a beautiful green suburb. It is divided from Table Mountain National Park by the M3 highway and wildlife like zebra and buck can often be seen grazing on the mountain slopes.

Rondebosch is set in a centralised area with convenient access to the M3 and M5 highways, and the Southern Line railway. It allows easy access to Cape Town International Airport and the city centre with its endless array of tourist attractions, including the V&A Waterfront, Table Mountain Cableway, Two Oceans Aquarium, museums, theatres, walking tours, shops, restaurants, bars, and nightclubs.

But you don’t have to go very far to find things to do in Rondebosch. Have a picnic up at Rhodes Memorial or lunch at the Rhodes Memorial Restaurant, go for a jog around Rondebosch Common (a national monument), watch a show at the Baxter Theatre, or enjoy a cup of coffee at Commonground Café situated above the Commonground Church. Browse Rondebosch Craft Market and the Rondebosch Potter’s Market, visit the nearby Mostert’s Mill (the only working windmill in South Africa), or explore Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens with its aerial walkway and hourly guided tours.

Home of the University of Cape Town’s main campus and Varsity College Rondebosch campus, the suburb is often filled with students. The area around the intersection of Main and Belmont Roads is a commercial and largely ‘studenty’ area with several shopping malls, two supermarkets, a pharmacy, banks, bottle stores, clothing shops, and an abundance of restaurants and take away outlets.

Historic buildings include the Rondebosch Town Hall (now occupied by Rondebosch City Library), St Paul’s Church, and the home of Simon van der Stel, the first governor of the Cape Colony. This forms part of Rustenburg Girl’s Junior School and dates back to the 17th century. Some beautiful examples of Victorian homes and first rate examples of Sir Herbert Baker architecture are also to be found in Rondebosch.

Sports facilities are aplenty in Rondebosch, and you’re just a short drive from Newlands with its rugby and cricket stadiums. Take your pick of the Rondebosch tennis courts, Western Province Cricket Club, and the University of Cape Town’s sport facilities, including those for tennis and hockey. Other sporting venues include Rondebosch Golf Club and Rygersdal Football Club.

With a superb central location, Rondebosch is the perfect base for your Cape Town holiday.
