Roodepoort
Description
Roodepoort is a city in Gauteng province with a residential sector that is expanding faster than anywhere else in South Africa. This growth is driven by various factors including a burgeoning Black middle class and Roodepoort's proximity to Gauteng's largest cities.
Roodepoort sprung up in 1884 after the brothers Fred and Harry Struben discovered gold here. Today, the city is of logistical importance because it is a gateway from Botswana and Northern South Africa to the economic hub of Johannesburg.
One of the city's favourite attractions is the Witwatersrand National Botanical Gardens.
