Skukuza

Description

Skukuza is the largest, most popular, and most accessible camp in the Kruger National Park. It is also the most developed site in the park with 3 museums, a library, restaurants and shops. The camp itself overlooks the Sabie River where elephants sometimes congregate and the stretch opposite Skukuza is home to a number of hippos. The trees along the river are home to very loud chacma Baboons and Wahlberg's Epauletted Fruit Bats are easily spotted under the verges of many of the thatched roofs.

Despite the human activity around Skukuza, all of the African Big 5 can be found in the vicinity of the camp, as well as many other recognizable and exciting animals. While most tourists choose to drive themselves around the park, Skukuza also offers game drives, bush braais and guided walks in the Kruger that can be organized from the main reception.

Skukuza is named for James "Sikhukhuza" Stevenson-Hamilton who swept the area clean of poachers and outlaws. “Sikhukhuza” is Zulu for “a new broom”.
