Description
De Hoop Opstal Vlei Cottages is situated in the beautiful De Hoop Nature Reserve and offers comfortable self-catering accommodation in 3 lovely thatched cottages. The Opstal area is a central base from which to explore the reserve; The Fig Tree Restaurant can be found here and is open all day. The on-site restaurant serves delicious meals prepared using locally sourced produce. Guests can either drive, hike or cycle to many of the interesting locations in the reserve.
The 3 thatched cottages are private and have partial views of the vlei. Each cottage comprises 2 bedrooms, a bathroom, and a living area with a well-equipped kitchen. Each kitchen is equipped with a fridge-freezer, an oven and stove, a microwave, basic crockery and cutlery, basic kitchen utensils, and dish-washing liquid and a sponge. Each bathroom has a shower, basin and a toilet. Bath towels, soap, hand wash, shampoo and conditioner, body wash and body lotion is provided. Linen and hangers are provided in the bedrooms.
There is a fireplace in the lounge for those chilly evenings. Firewood is not provided but guests are welcome to bring their own or purchase firewood from the curio shop. Each cottage features an outdoor braai with a permanent braai grid and braai equipment.
Guests can choose between various day walks through the rich fynbos plains or along the deserted coastline, mountain biking along the many gravel roads or scenic game drives. Lazing on the beach and snorkelling in the turquoise rock pools is another activity guests can enjoy. There is a tennis court, a swimming pool, and a boules courtyard.
De Hoop Nature Reserve offers sea, sand dunes, the vlei, a floral sensation of rare fynbos plants, diverse antelope, and the Potberg mountains. Birders can observe wading birds on the shores of the vlei, while the Potberg Mountains are home to a colony of endangered Cape vultures. Hikers and cyclists can enjoy close-up encounters with bontebok, Cape mountain zebra, eland, baboons, and ostrich.
