Rest for the soul. Beautiful, clean and dead quiet as I had hoped. Could walk among the wildlife.

Beautiful bush stay. The most amazing setting, with the chalets positioned well in the reserve, close to the pool and dam, with wildebeest and monkeys frequently passing near to the chalets. The nature reserve is full of animals, especially wildebeest and a variety of buck, and it is amazing to do a self-drive, hike in the reserve or take a guided night tour. Staff are knowledgeable and friendly, and I would highly recommend it for a breakaway from JHB/Pretoria. I would, however, suggest you do the trip with a high clearance vehicle as the roads are quite rough, especially if it rains.

Comfortable and relaxing. Good destination if you like to walk but some of the trails can be demanding. Some roads currently not in good condition.

Come on management The hut is very nice. Located right in front of a store room and staff rooms was very invasive as the staff are up and down constantly, talking very loud and coming to pick up things and people with old noisy bakkie and tractor. If you want peace and quiet, this is not the place. You can't sit at your fire as people do not respect your privacy and talk loud and make so much noise that it is impossible to relax. I am very disappointed in the 2 bush cabins for the walkers. They are being renovated (new buildings), but the site looks terrible, one can still keep it clean, while building there. The builders has no respect for nature or animals around the site. Papers, tins, glass clothes and rubbish are scattered all over the place. Animals were seen chewing on plastic bags. It's very bad. Close the roads there then, because 4 cars drove in there while we were birding close by and they were all disgusted about the stand of things there. The cabin down at the river is not at all being looked after or maintained. Please communicate to the right people so that someone takes responsibility and look after these special places. We love Ezemvelo Nature Reserve, but our last 2 stays were really not a nice experience. The people working there must really get a speech from management if management still exists. Bad experience.

Ezemvelo Nature Reserve

Good morning Bernard, Thank you for taking the time to post this review, we are glad that you love Ezemvelo. We are disappointed to read some of your comments. What is even more disappointing is that while you were onsite, you didn't mention any of this to us. Most of the time, Kyle and I are on site and during your stay, we were here. Had any complaint been raised with the team in reception or had you asked to speak to us, we would have been there to assist you. We have a lot of guests who come through, who can see the good we have done over the last year and a half and it is really a pity that you did not come and speak to us directly. Regarding the Mountain Huts, we can't close that area as the rock pools are down there. We have already spoken to the builders to tidy up their things and keep it tidy for the sake of our guests and the environment. The river camp is currently closed as we need to do renovations because it has deteriorated. It is a pity you didn't chat to us directly about this as we would have loved to share our plans with you. We are part of a non-profit organisation and we rely heavily on donations. Due to our remote location, construction is taking longer than it would in the city. We will have a chat with the staff in question whom I believe you reprimanded for making too much noise. These are new staff members who still learning the ropes and had something been said directly to us, we would have acted swiftly to ensure things were put right. We apologise that you didn't enjoy your stay with us as much as before, but we could have changed that very quickly had any of the above been raised with the team while you were here. We hope that we will be able to welcome you back in the future to once again enjoy our beautiful Nature Reserve. Warm regards, Charlie (GM)

Groete, Charlie (GM)

50/50. The monkeys were a big problem. They start early in the morning and are at the camp the whole day. I would advise that they try to scare off the monkeys on a daily basis. They are so cheeky and you cannot move without a monkey trying to take something. So no, they don't do enough to keep the monkeys away from the campsite. The dustbins were also a problem. Not enough dustbins and not secure for the monkeys.

Disappointing. It was disappointing. All two chairs in the room were broken. Sink in the bathroom crooked and loose. Shower walls were dirty. Table outside was broken. The 20 km dirt road is very bad. Looks like no maintenance is being done.

Teleurstellend. Stort se mure was vuil. Tafel buite was gebroke. Die 20 km grondpad is baie sleg. Lyk of daar geen onderhoud gedoen word nie.
