Experience the charm and ambience of King's Grant Country Retreat, situated in Ixopo, KwaZulu-Natal. Our tastefully decorated accommodation offers both B&B accommodation as well as self-catering suites.
The original living quarters of the Dutch monks and German nuns have been stylishly restored and converted into 10 comfortable individually decorated guest rooms with en-suite bathrooms, plus 3 fully equipped self-catering suites, accommodating between 25 - 26 guests. Free Wi-Fi hotspots are available in most rooms for guests as not all rooms have cell phone reception. All guest rooms have a TV with a DStv bouquet, tea trays with home-made biscuits, heaters and fans, electric blankets and private patios that open onto gardens where guests are invited to relax, unwind and catch a glimpse of the past.
The quaint chapel, with a stately Gothic-style spire above the bell-tower and original stained glass windows, stands at the heart of the village and is ideal for small and intimate ceremonies of up to 70 people. The Conference Centre is housed in the historic St. Isidor Mill and includes one breakaway room plus a stylish lounge for teas. King's Grant offers the perfect quiet venue for a productive conference. Country hospitality and cuisine, together with attention to detail, will ensure a successful time spent at our unique venue.
The Mill also houses a well-lit art studio for use by individuals or groups. The Restaurant and Banquet Hall open onto a courtyard of flower-filled gardens that surround a tinkling fountain and offer delicious country cuisine, cream teas or lunches. Fine wine and dining can be enjoyed in the licensed restaurant, but note that bookings are essential.
On-site activities include exploring the history of King's Grant such as the St Isidor Maize Mill with yellow wood and Baltic Pine timbers, the Blacksmith's workshop, prolific bird life with over 200 species recorded, fishing, canoeing, cycling and walking and a wealth of diverse photographic opportunities. Local activities are the Paton’s Country Express, a narrow-gauge steam train, mountain biking and bird-watching for species such the rare Cape Parrots and Blue Swallows.
