We give out gate remotes and request a minimal deposit which is refunded when a guest checks out and gives back the remote. The reason is that in the past we incurred costs when guests lose or misplace the gate remotes. We have to purchurse a new remote/remotes and then a service provider has to come in and decode and encode ALL our remotes as a security precaution. This is explained to guests and we have had no complaints about this. Of course, we are charged for this service, even if just 1 remote was lost. We also feel it would be unethical to impose a blanket charge for all guests by including the remote deposit in the room rate. Hence, guests are given a choice to take a remote or not. We were looking for a place to stay near the FNB Stadium before the 947 Ride Joburg. We were kindly received by Joy and everything was neat and ready as agreed. The facilities are quite basic and there was only a bath, not a shower. The towels were not luxurious, but everything was clean and tidy. The small fridge in the room helped a lot.
