A cocoon of peaceful rest in a beautiful seaside village. Magpie Cottage is a true gem! It is situated in a quiet, pretty street only a 5-minute walk from the beautiful Kayser's beachfront. We loved the fresh air, perfect weather, crashing waves, the rock pools, and stunning walks. The cottage itself is larger than anyone would expect - spacious, simply beach-house-classic in design with remarkable artwork everywhere. The main bedroom has a double bed - incredibly comfortable - with crisp clean bedding and ample pillows. There is additional bedding and under blankets for warmth on cold nights. The cupboard space is most generous with more than enough hangers (something many holiday homes skimp on). The main bathroom is sparkly clean with all the basic toiletries. I didn't try the bath but - wow - the shower was superb! Towels were large and fluffy. The second bedroom is slightly smaller but includes a double bed, cupboards and another great shower. An inverter is situated there in case of need, but it seems that loadshedding often bypasses Kayser's. The cottage is well equipped for any power problem with torches and gas cookers. The kitchen is perfect for a few nights' stay (we were there for 4 nights). A big fridge-freezer, an electric stove, kettle, and plenty of crockery and utensils. Also lots of hot water to wash dishes. The open-plan lounge has a really comfortable seating area perfect for reading or playing board games. The small dining room table has a lovely view of the front garden. There is even a TV room which we didn't need. The kitchen opens onto a small, charming and lush back garden which includes a fabulous outdoor shower. And, finally, the front garden has a lush lawn and lovely well-maintained beds and trees. An outside lapa for braais is well sheltered and perfect for summer evenings. The host is a welcoming and genial person - and able to balance the conflicting tasks of ensuring guests are well-informed but also left in peace and quiet. They are also good to have around in the neighbourhood as they run the local security company - even though Kayser's does not have much crime from what I understand! We were looking for a place that would provide a good night's sleep, a peaceful environment and an opportunity to recharge. Magpie Cottage provided all of that and so much more. We would recommend it very highly to anyone thinking of visiting Kayser's Beach. A very special thank you to the owner of Magpie Cottage, who was absolutely gracious, informative, kind and generous. Nothing was too much for her. A few heads-up for visitors to Kayser's Beach: the road after you turn off the main road is very potholed and probably very muddy during rain. But it is not a very long road. Just drive really slowly and keep your eyes open. It's not as bad as the roads in our home village, so we weren't really fazed by this! There are mozzies everywhere in summer and they are determined gals! There are anti-mozzie mats in the rooms but best to take your own Tabard as well, especially for sitting outside. You need to bring basically all your food and drink with you as there are few places to buy more than absolute necessities. We didn't get to the small shop as we didn't need anything so can't tell you what is available.
