Description
The Mountain House is a lovely self-catering house set high up in the Nuweveld Mountains on the Kalkfontein Farm, 13 km from the Kalkfontein Gaste Plaas. The house overlooks the Karoo and the view stretches to the Swartberg Mountains in the south. The exceptional setting of the Mountain House allows for private and secluded romantic getaways or is the ideal spot to just relax and recharge one's batteries.
A 4x4 or 4x2 vehicle with high ground clearance will be needed in order to reach the Mountain House. The house is off-the-grid and makes use of gas and solar for power.
The Mountain House can accommodate up to 4 adults and 3 children, and contains 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, and an open-plan kitchen and living area. The first bedroom contains a double bed. The second bedroom contains a bunk bed. There is a nook off the living room that contains a bunk bed, ideal for 2 children. The bathroom contains a shower, a toilet and a washbasin. Hot water is provided by gas geyser.
The kitchen is fitted with a 2-plate gas stove, a 12-volt solar fridge, kettle, and cutlery and crockery. The lounge area contains seating, an additional single bed for a child, and a fireplace for those cold winter nights. 12-volt solar lights provide lighting. The cottage opens to a covered patio with a built-in braai, outdoor seating, and a private wood-fired hot tub. The house also has a firepit with seating and a built-in braai facility, ideal for a night under the stars.
The Kalkfontein Farm is situated approximately 4.5 hours drive from Cape Town and approximately 6 hours from Bloemfontein. Kalkfontein has been in the Hattingh family since 1934. Gert and Julia Hattingh are the third generation staying on this beautiful Karoo farm and will be your friendly hosts. Come and kick off your shoes and experience true Karoo hospitality, provided in abundance.
