We are pensioners and travel around 6 months a year. Our review is always honest and objective with the purpose to advise other visitors and the owners to improve where possible. Sea view is nice, veranda is halfway covered with glass on south and east side to protect from rain and wind. The veranda was dirty on arrival with old mop cleaning marks. House not sparkling clean either. House is very spacious for holiday accommodation. Nice genuine leather sofa set corner unit. Adequately equipped. Needs a pasta/rice strainer though, the old small rusted flour sift is really inadequate and not usable at all. BBQ built in on porch very nice, under cover out of sun and rain. However, the braai has a fixed height grid about 30cm above coals, requiring the use of a full 4 to 5kg bag of charcoal for one BBQ that burns out very fast. On our arrival, the BBQ was still full of old ash from previous braai of visitors which I just ignored and made fire on top of it. The braai grid was dirty. The grids at the bottom are totally out of lifespan service and patched with pieces of other dilapidated grid. The road up is very steep and narrow, even for a medium-sized SUV, fold in your mirrors. The garage too is very narrow, passenger/s left must exit vehicle while outside and only the driver can get out when parked close to left wall. Difficult limited manoeuvring space when reversing out of garage with SUVs, but you can get in and out eventually. Entering directly into home from garage is a huge plus, no steps anywhere. Dressing tables had no chairs in all 3 rooms. Dining room seats 6 persons on old nostalgic wooden table/chairs, adequate but the table spread was clearly not washed from previous visitors' use. No decoder, cable is provided to connect own decoder or laptop if you bring it along. Zero WiFi, must bring own. Main bedroom has a bath only, 2nd shared bathroom has a shower. Both have toilets fortunately. Only one roll of toilet tissue is provided per bathroom for a week…bring/buy some more! Only one refuse bag for the week, it smelled horrible the last 2 days if you open the trash storage. The fridge/freezer combo is quite small for a place that can accommodate 6/8 persons, we struggled to fit stuff for 2 persons for 4 nights. More than 2 persons will have to buy provisions rather every day or two. No aircon, only ceiling fans which was fine during our visit, was extremely cold after snow in late Sept 2024. No daily cleaning services, unexpected and not mentioned on website. No towels provided, had to buy our own, unexpected and not mentioned on website. Kitchen needs oven gloves/mittens. The main bedroom does not have a bed headboard. Looks silly and raw bricks behind your head. Mattress in main bedroom very hard, feels like sleeping on floor. But that is personal opinion, many people like such hard mattresses. A small 350ml bottle with dishwashing liquid (1/4 full) is provided, and an old dilapidated rag was provided to dry dishes with. We bought a decent bottle of dishwashing liquid, dishwashing cloth and drying cloth. (And took it when we left.) Neighbours in nr 4 (permanent residents it seems, do not know) were very loud and children extremely irritating at times. Units share a single layer wall and could hear all the loud conversations via wooden door/wall connecting/splitting the units. The dogs opposite the street to the left barked at every pedestrian. To make matters worse, the permanent residents on the stand to the right when facing the sea from unit 3, keep three dogs which woke us up several times a night with barking. Irritating. (Even the unattended garden of neighbours is a sore eye.) Can I recommend this place? After the week we started liking the place more. So many improvements can be made to make it more up to standard. The Google map on the website is indicating a wrong address, there is a Queen Street, Queen Elizabeth Street and Queen Elizabeth Drive in this small area! Fortunately, the map you receive with keys at Sasol in Margate has a correct map. Die water on South Coast is very poor quality, buy some and refill your cans, many places around refilling/selling decent/safe drinking water.
