Khaya Mandevu - Schoemanskloof Retreat is a self-catering roomy old farmhouse on Falls Fish Farm in the beautiful, indigenous, malaria-free valley of Schoemanskloof, Mpumalanga, en route to the Kruger National Park and known for its stone circle ruins.
The house can accommodate up to 7 guests and comprises 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, an open-plan dining and living area, with a separate kitchen. Two bedrooms are furnished with king-size beds which can be converted into 2 single beds and the third bedroom has 2 single beds. The king-size beds are furnished with thick mattress toppers. A seventh guest can be accommodated on a long couch which is made up in the entrance alcove and there is also a cot for an infant in the second bedroom. The en-suite bathroom contains a bath, a toilet, and a washbasin, and the second bathroom contains a shower, toilet, and a washbasin.
The kitchen is well-equipped with a gas stove and oven, fridge-freezer, toaster, and dishwasher. The dining area contains a 6-8 seater dining table and chairs. The lounge area has old comfy couches and a fireplace for cold winter nights. Wi-Fi is available on request. The cottage opens to a covered verandah with seating and wonderful views of the dam below, the bush, and the mountains. A small plunge pool is situated on one side of the house and there is an outdoor shower nearby. The house has a large fenced-in garden and is pet-friendly. There is a built-in braai with a grid in the garden.
The 184-hectare farm has 2 gorges with cascades and waterfalls when there have been good rains. It is bordered by the river a short walk below. There are a number of different hikes and farm roads so it is ideal for nature lovers, birders, hikers and mountain bikers. Paths have been cut through the bush and one can walk for hours on the mountain. There are also many old stone ruins which the area has become known for.
