Description
Semane Lodge is situated in the Eastern Cape in Mbewu Fields, on the edge of the Baviaanskloof, on the banks of the Kouga River. Mbewu Fields is located within the gigantic Baviaanskloof Mega Reserve, a spectacular world heritage site. Known for its biodiversity, it abounds with indigenous fauna and flora.
A variety of self-catering accommodation is offered. The luxury Semane Lodge Main House can accommodate 2 up to 15 guests at a time. The cosy cottages are ideal for 2 to 4 persons. The longhouse with communal facilities accommodates up to 10 people in 5 separate bedrooms, 1 or 2 guests per room. Appliances and equipment such as a stove or gas cooker, fridge, microwave oven, kettle, toaster, cutlery, crockery and braai facilities are available and bed linen is included.
The area teems with birdlife, fish in the Kouga River and fynbos covering the hillsides. Kudu, klipspringers, baboons and leopards are regularly spotted. The Kouga River meanders through Mbewu Fields, providing a peaceful, calming atmosphere as the water flows over the white river stones. It has natural pools for swimming, kayaking, tubing and fishing for bass and catfish.
Please note that the accommodation is reached by means of a gravel road and guests are required to enquire about the condition of the road before booking.
The area offers opportunities for hiking, rock and mountain climbing, and 4x4 trails. Due to its unspoiled surroundings, one can contemplate the stupendous Milky Way as it straddles the night sky.
