Description
Shengeza Lake Lodge is provided as a self-catering retreat in Kosi Bay, close to Ponta D’ouro, and is ideally suited for surfers, anglers, adventure seekers, hikers, birdwatchers, nature enthusiasts, families, and groups of friends. Access to the lodge is facilitated by a 4×4 or SUV, offering an adventurous arrival into a serene natural setting. Shengeza Lake lies directly in front of the lodge and is home to a variety of birds and a resident hippo family.
The lodge comprises 2 rustic units furnished for self-catering stays. The first unit accommodates 6 guests and includes 3 bedrooms, each furnished with 2 single beds, as well as a bathroom with a shower. A fully equipped kitchen is provided for meal preparation. The second unit accommodates 4 guests and features 2 bedrooms, each with 2 single beds, and makes use of an outdoor shower with a basin. A commercial kitchen is available nearby at the campsite for shared use, as the unit does not include an internal kitchen.
Both units are fitted with decks, and guests have access to a communal dining and lounge area. An enclosed braai area, boma, pizza oven, and splash pool are provided for guest use. Daily servicing is offered to ensure comfort throughout the stay. The lodge operates completely off-grid, utilising solar-powered lighting and geysers, gas fridges and freezers, and a gas stove and oven, creating a self-sufficient yet comfortable environment.
Nearby activities include snorkelling at Kosi Bay Mouth, often called “the aquarium,” offering calm, clear waters teeming with colourful fish; turtle nesting tours between November and March to witness Loggerhead and Leatherback turtles; lake system boat trips to explore the four interconnected lakes and spot wildlife such as hippos, crocodiles, and various bird species; visits to traditional Thonga fish traps to observe ancient sustainable fishing practices; and beach hopping to explore other nearby beaches like Bhanga Nek, Black Rock, and Lala Nek. Other activities include hiking through the ancient Raffia Palm Forest and visiting Thembe Elephant Park.
Please note that park fees apply for entry to some beaches, and tours are available at an additional cost.
