Description
Thorn & Feather is located near the hamlet of Vermaaklikheid, 35 km from Riversdale and 40 km from Stilbaai. The property is set on a ridge in the Afromontane forest, overlooking the Duiwenhoks River, with private access to the river.
This property offers private accommodation in the form of three separate stone cottages that are interlinked by well-maintained walkways and hemmed in by low stone walls. It accommodates 6 adults and 3 children. Cottage Annabelle has a queen-size bed and a single bed, which is suitable for a child. Astrid Cottage has a queen-size bed and 2 single beds for children, and it features a toilet and an outside shower. Sam Cottage is fitted with a queen-size bed. Guests also have access to a separate toilet, an outside shower, a bathhouse with a stone bath and shower, as well as exceptional views. Piping hot water is supplied by a large boiler, which is prepared daily by a member of staff.
The main building offers a fully equipped self-catering kitchen and dining area, with large folding doors that open onto a porch. The kitchen is equipped with a fridge-freezer, second freezer, gas oven, gas stove, bar fridge, traditional cooking hearth, and cooking utensils. Wi-Fi access is available. There is a free-standing closed-door fireplace in the dining room.
The patio contains an indoor braai, a living area, and a large, comfortable daybed. The open patio is equipped with a round fire pit, additional braai facilities, and a plunge pool. The deck continues into a walkway, which leads to a lower deck situated under trees, with further views of the river.
Activities in the area include angling, birdwatching, boating, canoeing, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, hiking, and mountain biking. A beautiful, uncrowded beach can be reached by kayak or boat at the river mouth.
