White River
Description
White River is a little town tucked away in the Crocodile River Valley, just north of Nelspruit. Situated close to the border of the Kruger National Park and the Panorama Route, and surrounded by scenic forests, it’s a largely underrated escape for nature lovers.
Founded in 1890, White River (also known as "Witrivier" in Afrikaans), is an important tourism and agricultural centre with a focus on tropical fruit, vegetables, flowers, timber, and tobacco.
The climate is said to be one of the best in South Africa with lovely hot days in summer when rainfall is at its highest and cool nights during winter. The town also has a reputation for homemade arts and crafts. Spend some time browsing the Casterbridge Lifestyle Centre with a movie cinema, spa, and plenty of arts and crafts.
White River is an exceptional holiday destination for those who enjoy being outdoors. Its close proximity to the Kruger National Park means you can enjoy game drives to spot the Big Five. The Panorama Route is also nearby where you can easily spend a day visiting God’s Window, Bourke’s Luck Potholes, the Blyde River Canyon, and the Three Rondavels.
Interesting attractions include the White River Gallery, St George’s Anglican Church, Mission End Trading Post, the Lowveld Botanical Garden, Moholoholo Rehabilitation Centre, Chimpanzee Eden, and MalaMala Game Reserve which shares a common border with the Kruger National Park.
Pine Lake Lifestyle Resort is nestled amongst the Mpumalanga Mountains on Lake Longmere. It offers a golf course, floodlit tennis court, volleyball court, canoes, a swimming pool, gym with sauna, fishing opportunities, and a short birding trail.
Other activities include horse riding, hiking, abseiling, mountain biking, paintball, archery, quad biking, wine tasting at Rottcher Wineries, and golfing at the 18-hole White River Country Estate.
White River is a fantastic holiday destination for leisure lovers, families, and adventure lovers alike.
