The guest arrived at Appledore Lodge under somewhat unusual circumstances, as they mentioned that their initial booking was with a different property where pets were not allowed. As a result, it seems this booking may not have been their first choice.
Upon their arrival, the stove unfortunately started tripping the power. It had been functioning properly during previous bookings, and I was genuinely unaware of any issues prior to their stay. I immediately contacted an electrician and was awaiting his arrival. In the meantime, the guest assured me that they were comfortable using the gas cooker available on their balcony/braai area. Additionally, I offered to bring an alternative stove from another unit, but I did not receive a response to this offer. I took all possible steps to resolve the issue promptly, and as a gesture of goodwill, I provided a one-night refund to compensate for the inconvenience caused.
Concerning the guest’s comment about dirty crockery, I would like to respectfully clarify that this is not accurate. There was a single chipped coffee mug among a set of 48 pieces of crockery. Given the circumstances, I cannot be certain when or how the damage occurred, but I can confirm that no dirty crockery was present upon their arrival. I believe our consistently positive reviews over the past eight years reflect the standard of cleanliness we maintain.
However, I feel it is important to share feedback on the condition in which the property was left. Unfortunately, the unit was left in a very poor state—every dish, pot, pan, coffee mug, and utensil used from day one was left unwashed in and around the kitchen sink. Additionally, dog food left in a cereal bowl had spoiled, attracting maggots. This required extensive cleaning after the guest’s departure.
I hope my record of consistently positive reviews over the past eight years speaks to the quality of service and accommodation I strive to provide.
