In response to your review (it's interesting how my overall rating over 7 years is 5/5), I have read your comments and feel it's only fair to put things into context for future guests. We need to clarify a few details which you left out:
In 35 years, we have not had a single break in. Unfortunately, you did not mention in your review that you left the downstairs windows open when you went out. You were informed on arrival to close and lock all doors and windows when you left the premises, but it seems this advice was not heeded. As a result, I cannot take responsibility for the lack of security at the house. To assist you, I spent a considerable amount of time connecting with the police station to ask for their assistance, as you didn't want to go to the station yourself. I realise that this occurrence is not something you would anticipate during your holiday.
Regarding the fire, it was on the mountain, not at the house - an event completely beyond my control and thus has no relevance to your stay at the house. For the safety of the entire neighbourhood, residents had to leave their homes for a few hours, after which they could return safely.
About the electricity, an unprecedented incident took place at midnight due to a faulty side light, something that has never happened in 35 years. I acted promptly and had it sorted the very next morning, alongside replacing the side lamp. You also had full backup power to compensate for load-shedding. The key replacement issue in the morning was an honest mistake from my housekeeper, which we rectified immediately.
With regard to the laundry, expecting one person to wash, fold and iron eight loads of laundry in an afternoon is quite challenging. Nevertheless, I absorbed the cost of additional help to complete your request. I was in constant communication with you throughout your stay, and have taken your feedback into consideration. We strive to treat our staff with respect, so any form of negativity towards them from guests is disheartening.
In terms of additional requests from you: a fan was provided, DSTV was installed, and extra cleaning services were arranged upon your request. All these additional services were provided at my own expense. I explained the situation regarding our regular cleaning lady being on leave and arranged a replacement accordingly. We provide assistance with every request and pride ourselves on our commitment to guest satisfaction.
Yes, there were a few unexpected incidents, out of my control, barring one. However, we stepped up each time and provided assistance where we could. I regret that you did not fully enjoy your stay, though some responsibility also falls on the guests.
