We rented the house for a family celebration, and had a great time. The house is in a beautiful setting, but is a bit tired. Not sure I would describe it as a four-star guesthouse. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. I think the pricing was fair, but with a bit of investment I would have been prepared to pay more.

‘n Besondere oornagplek. Die rustige werf met die Herbert Baker-woning omring deur 'n pragtuin van kleur met uitsig op die Hottentots-Hollandberg was net wat nodig was na 'n uitputtende reis met swaar verkeer. Die ruim kamer is smaakvol ingerig.

Disappointing stay for the price. We recently stayed at this 4-star property, and unfortunately, it did not live up to its rating or the price of R3200 per night. The room was dated, with fine mould on the bedroom and bathroom ceilings and on the curtains. The fitted sheet for the king bed was too small, though the bed itself was comfortable. However, the bedding seemed more suited for winter, making the already hot room unbearable—there was no air conditioning or even a fan provided. The carpets were not particularly clean, and overall, the room barely met a 3-star standard. The lack of amenities was disappointing. The staff leave at 17:00, leaving no dining options after 16:00. The coffee station, awkwardly placed on a small TV trolley in the hallway, felt like an afterthought. The DSTV didn’t work, and although staff promised it would be fixed the following day, no one followed up or provided an update. Similarly, the WiFi was poor, and staff were unable to provide passwords for stronger signals. The pool was a highlight, but it wasn’t cleaned properly, and the poolside bathroom seemed neglected, with visible dirt and no evidence of recent cleaning. Breakfast was the only redeeming part of the stay. There was a good selection, but unfortunately, the bacon and eggs were cold both mornings. As compensation for the lack of DSTV, we received two glasses of white wine, but communication from the staff beyond that was sparse. Overall, this property is more reflective of a 3-star rating at best, and even then, our specific room struggled to meet that standard. For the high price, we expected much better.

'n Heerlike ervaring. Die woning, slaapkamer en badkamer, geriewe en tuine was werklik baie mooi en gerieflik. Die gasvryheid en ontbyt was besonder genotvol. Aangesien ons op 'n Maandagaand oorgeslaap het, was aandete en 'n wynproe nie beskikbaar nie. Ons sal graag wil teruggaan wanneer dit wel moontlik is.

Pragtige omgewing met gasvryheid uit die boonste rakke. Mens kan net jou verlustig in die mooi tuin uitgetooi in helder herfskleure. Die woonhuis is besonders: groot stoep, gesellige kuierruimte met kaggelvuur en al. Bonus vir ons toe die wynmaker inloer en met ons 'n glasie wyn deel. Ruim kamer en badkamer, skoon en netjies. Heerlike ontbyt. Die personeel, Audrey en Marthie, asook Peter is besonderse mense, vriendelik en behulpsaam. Marisa is 'n bekwame bestuurder wat mens laat tuis voel en niks is vir haar moeite nie. Geluk met die huishouding en goeie span!

We needed a break but it turned out to be more stress. We booked the Dennisten Room but got to stay in the Brown Room which was an overnight room. Check in should be before 17h00 as gates closes at 19h00. Due to unforeseen circumstances, we could not make it for 17h00 and I contacted the Guest House at 15h00 to make arrangements. On arrival, we collected the keys as per arrangement with Marisa and luckily it was before 19h00 and the gates were still open. We were the only guests. Very scary. One chair in the room. I could help myself at the honesty bar to a bottle of wine. Must admit, the wine was good. Wine was on the floor, no table. Had to do makeup in the bathroom all steaming up. My blow dryer was on the coffee station as that was the only plug near to a mirror. We left after breakfast. Upon our return, our room was not serviced. Bed was not made. Dirty towels still in the bathroom. No clean towels. The next day there were quite a few people checking in only to overnight. They received the suites. When I eventually got to see Marisa as we were checking out, she did not apologise. Her excuse: The rooms were all the same size. That was not what I saw. The feedback to my booking agent was; I did not contact her to make arrangements and therefore she thought we were not coming anymore. However, I was offered a free wine tasting or a bottle of wine delivered to my home. Regarding the cleaning; they do not go into guests' room because not everybody trusts strangers to go into their room. But they refilled the coffee and the curtains were open.
