The Montusi Self-Catering Cottages are located in the quiet and peaceful 1000-hectare Montusi Estate which is a conservation estate in the Northern Drakensberg in KwaZulu-Natal, near Royal Natal National Park and Alpine Heath, the Cavern Berg Resort and Hlalanathi. The Montusi Estate has lovely facilities and self-catering guests have access to the stunning swimming pool, guided walks, marked trails, tennis, birding, 4Ă—4 and mountain bike trails, as well as horse riding.
The accommodation comprises 5 thatched self-catering holiday. They are separate from Montusi Mountain Lodge. Each cottage has its own en-suite bathroom, an open-plan well-equipped kitchen, dining and living area, and a private patio with a braai facility. Each cottage has magnificent views of the Drakensberg’s Amphitheatre, a World Heritage site. Guests can enjoy this spectacular scenery in the comfort of their cottages.
Since June 2000 the Carte family has provided an opportunity for their guests to intimately indulge in the freedom of the Drakensberg experience. They believe in the conservation of the Northern Drakensberg and have preserved and planted; changing a wattle infested wasteland into a rehabilitated conservation area. The indigenous trees and man-made forests continue to flourish and the resultant bird life, which was once non-existent, has become abundant. This ethic has resulted in the return of the mountain reedbuck, Vaal rhebuck, bushbuck and the elusive eland to this area once inhabited by Bushmen.
