Outdated cottage with poor-quality mattresses caused severe discomfort. Although we could see from the photos that See-View Cottage was outdated, this in itself did not concern us. We usually camp but decided to treat my 73-year-old mother, who had suffered from spinal cancer a few years ago, to a more comfortable experience by having her join us. Unfortunately, we were deeply disappointed by the quality of the mattresses on the beds, which were completely inadequate. My mother was in so much pain that she could not sleep at all. We even tried layering multiple mattresses in an effort to improve comfort, but it made no difference. In the end, we were forced to leave early due to the lack of sleep. When we raised the issue with the owner, she informed us that she did not care about our discomfort because the property was on the market and was now someone else’s concern. This felt like a complete disregard for her paying guests—she was happy to take our money but unwilling to address basic standards of comfort. While there were other inconveniences due to the age of the cottage, such as a lack of plugs near mirrors, no fans, and furniture that seemed to be a mismatched collection of discarded items, we could have tolerated these. However, the inability to sleep comfortably was too significant a compromise. The owner should not continue accepting paying guests if she is unwilling to provide an adequate level of care and hospitality. It’s unacceptable to disregard the comfort of guests while still profiting from their stay.

An experience. We were warmly welcomed by the owner. The interior is dated but spacious and clean. A lovely big enclosed stoep with a stunning view of the mountain. There is no TV but there are enough games and books to read.

Enjoyable and relaxing. We had a relaxing time in a quiet area, within walking distance to everything in and around the town of Clarens.

Comfortable with a relaxing atmosphere both inside and in the large gardens. Although the accommodation is basic, it was very comfortable and, apart from there being no TV, all other needs were catered for. My colleague was booked into other accommodation which leaked badly, and the owner accommodated her with me in the cottage at short notice. The cottage is within easy walking distance to the town centre.

Relaxing and refreshing. We loved it! Not money greedy friendly but genuinely friendly and hospitable. Very helpful and accommodating. Thank you for a lovely stay.
