The hospital is situated at the corner of Alexandra & Annex Roads, Maitland in Cape Town, Western Cape. Nearby main roads are the M5 to the West of the hospital and the M16 and R102 to the North. Surrounding suburbs are Pinelands, Kensington and Paarden Island.

Alexandra hospital is a public hospital and therefore services are free to pregnant and breastfeeding women, as well as children under the age of six years old and pensioners. Other patients are charged a consultation and/or admission fee.
