Boskop Dam Nature Reserve

Description

Boskop Dam Nature Reserve is situated in the Mooi River valley, just 20km north of Potchefstroom, North West. The 3,000 hectare reserve consists of rolling grasslands and is known for numerous outdoor recreational activities such game viewing, bird watching, canoeing, and picnicking along the shore.

Boskop is best known as an angling destination, hosting a range of fishing competitions. The dam is fed by the Mooi River and is home to smallmouth yellow fish, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, barbell, and monstrous carp.

The reserve is home to over 250 species of birds and wildlife such as black wildebeest, springbok, zebra, red hartebeest, and blesbok. While the reserve is one of the most popular in the North West province, few people spot one of its rarest species. The Lithops slesliei is a succulent that resembles a stone. You can also spot the wellknown Orange River lily (Crinum bulbispermum) and the beautiful coral bush (Erythrina zeyhefi) here.
