Cango Caves
Description
Cango Caves is a fantastic adventure attraction situated just 29km from Oudtshoorn in the Klein Karoo region of the Western Cape. Set within a limestone ridge parallel to the famous Swartberg Mountains, you will find some exceptional dripstone caverns, vast halls and towering formations.
The Cango Caves is the only cave in Africa which offers a choice of easy and adventure tours. All of the tours are led by experienced caving guides, and can be conducted in English, Afrikaans, German, and French. Other language guides are available - please enquire upon booking.
Heritage Tour
The 60 minute Heritage Tour is the standard tour, conducted on foot. This tour is the one to do if you’re not comfortable with small spaces. You will explore Van Zyl’s Hall, Botha’s Hall, Rainbow Chamber, Bridal Chamber, Fairyland Chamber, and Drum room, and view the stalagmite known as The Pulpit, the outstretched lost wing of an angel, the Fairy Queen’s Palace, Fairy Castle, and several stunning helictites.
Adventure Tour
This 90 minute tour is not for sissies. While it has the same starting point as the Heritage Tour, it continues to lead deeper into the cave. At the end of the Heritage Tour, you will descend and start 30 minutes and this is when the going gets tough – and exciting! At times, you may find yourself having to crawl and squeeze through small spaces. Features include Jacob’s Ladder with over 200 steps, the Grand Hall, The Avenue, and the Lumbago Alley. You will view plenty of formations, roof crystals, and smaller grottos, as well as features like King Solomon’s Mines, Devil’s Chimney, The Coffin, Devil’s Kitchen, and Devil’s Postbox.
