Chevrolet Park

Description

Chevrolet Park (previously known as Goodyear Park and the OUTsurance Oval) is a multi-purpose stadium in the heart of Bloemfontein, South Africa. It is the home ground of the domestic cricket team, the Chevrolet Knights, and is used mostly for cricket matches. The stadium is well situated and holds about 16 000 people. The spectator-friendly ground has spacious grass embankments that make it a great location to bring the family to enjoy a day out while watching a good game of cricket. Kiosks and bars are located on all sides of the stadium, assuring that refreshments are available to all spectators.

Chevrolet Park offers the following seating options: • Grass Embankments on the eastern and western side • Main stand • 11 Main Stand Suites • Roof Garden • Presidential Suite on the southern side • Centenary Stand • 21 Centenary Stand Suites • 6 Chalets • A children’s play area on the northern side of the stadium is filled with loads of fun during each match.

A new indoor centre was opened in 2009 to help the Chevrolet Knights fine tune their skills. It includes state of the art flooring, 4 bowling lanes, and a media centre. Net practices take place at the net area behind the Centenary Stand. Chevrolet Park is the first stadium in South Africa to have artificial run-ups for the nets. It is part of a wonderful sporting complex, covering a massive city block that includes facilities for athletics, rugby, hockey, cricket, tennis, and swimming.

The ground is used for limited-over international and domestic games. It is regarded as a good One Day wicket and is conducive to high scoring. Excellent floodlights make it one of the six test venues used in South Africa.

Some of the stadium’s highlights: • Colin Ingram became the first South African to score an ODI century on debut. • Hansie Cronje had one of the greatest innings played in 1994 when he smashed 251 against Australia, hitting 28 fours and 6 sixes. • Allan Donald became the first South African to take 300 test wickets in November 2000.
