Commando Drift Nature Reserve
Description
Commando Drift Nature Reserve, has name which originated from a farm, owned by Voortrekker leader Hendrik Potgieter. It is situated 58km from Cradock and 40km from Tarkastad.
This lush nature reserve covers an area of 5 983 ha - though the stunning dam within it covers up 950ha of the land when full. Some of the wildlife species that can be spotted in the reserve include cape mountain zebra, black wildebeest, red hartebeest, springbok, kudu and Mau. This reserve is managed by the Eastern Cape Parks board.
Activities available include game viewing, mountain biking, 4x4 trails, picnic sites, and camping and caravaning. Other popular activities are boating, fishing, and swimming in Kommandodrif Dam. There are numerous hiking trails within the area, so ensure you take a day or two to fully discover the wonders of Commando Drift Nature Reserve.
