De Beers Diamond Oval
Description
De Beers Diamond Oval (previously known as the De Beers Country Club and the Kimberley Country Club) is a multi-purpose stadium in Kimberley, in the Northern Cape province of South Africa. The 11 000 capacity stadium is a nice open ground with plenty of the grass banks that have proved popular with South African spectators. De Beers Diamond Oval is home to the Griqualand West cricket team and is mostly used for cricket matches. It was the proud host venue for 3 matches during the 2003 Cricket World Cup.
The ground hosted its first One Day International in April 1998, when Pakistan chased down a Sri Lankan total of 295 to record a 4-wicket victory. High scoring matches have become quite the pattern for One Day Internationals at this ground. At the same time, this is cricket and anything can happen. Like when England's Mark Ealham managed figures of 5 for 15 in only 10 overs against Zimbabwe in January 2000.
