Drakensberg Boys' Choir School
Description
Along with two major celebrations held annually, the Drakensberg Boys' Choir holds a concert every Wednesday afternoon that is not to be missed. The Drakensberg Boys' Choir mesmerises audiences with their assorted musical styles, demonstrating an extraordinary ability to perform any type of show.
The choir is internationally famous for its African flair and for dramatising favourite works such as Shosholoza and Night Sounds. The students are also known to perform a Gumboot Dance that was created in the mines of South Africa and other traditional African style entertainment. They also excel at more classical renditions, such as Handel’s “Messiah”, Mozart’s “Requiem”, Bernstein’s “Chichester Psalms”, Bach’s “Magnificat” and many more works of this stature.
The school is located on a 100 acre estate and is structured as a farm school. The school hall was expanded to an 80-seater to a hall that can now seat 600 people, complete with theatrical sound and lighting. This auditorium is easily filled at each performance.
