Giant's Castle
Description
Giant's Castle is a spectacular mountain peak in Central Drakensberg in the KwaZulu-Natal province. With a height of 3,314m and a multitude of excellent hiking routes with panoramic views, you wouldn’t want to miss a visit to this peak.
The surrounding reserve was created in 1903 with the aim to prevent the extinction of the eland. Today, Giant’s Castle is considered to have one of the largest eland populations in the world and the reserve is also home to some more endangered species of wildlife.
Some 200 pairs of the endangered bearded vulture (lammer-geier) can be found here, and can be viewed from a camouflaged hide. The ability to see these endangered species of wildlife from close quarters makes Giant’s Castle a must-visit attraction!
Hiking trails
There are over 25 walks located in the Giant’s Castle Game Reserve. The 285km network of trails ranges from 3km to 30km, and span from 1 hour to overnight.
