Gill College
Description
Gill College is a co-ed public high school in Somerset East in the Eastern Cape. Gill College caters for learners from Grade 8 to Grade 12. It is one of the leading schools in the Eastern Cape.
HERITAGE
Gill College was originally founded in 1869 as a university. It was named after Dr William Gill who died in 1863 and left money for the establishment of a college of higher education. The college was officially opened on 18 March 1869 as a co-ed college. It later became a boys’ school before merging with Bellevue Girls’ School to become co-ed school once more. In 1903, the school became a high school due to changes in educational regulations.

The school motto is Sursum Prorsusque which means “Upwards and Onwards”
