Hermanus Whale Watching
Description
Hermanus is most famous for the spectacular whale viewing that can be enjoyed here annually. The town has even been recognized by the World Wildlife Fund as one of the 12 best whale watching destinations in the world. Southern right whales grace Walker Bay from June to December after returning from their trip to the Antarctic.
During the months of September and October, the bay is teeming with whales and new born calves to the point that tourists are guaranteed daily sightings. Hermanus employs an official whale crier who wanders around Main Road wearing a board detailing the best spots for viewing each day, and blowing a kelp to announce the presence of whales in the bay. You can often find him near to the Hermanus Harbour Museum.
