Houses Of Parliament
Description
Although Cape Town is not the capital of South Africa, it hosts South Africa’s Houses of Parliament, built in the 1800s, are situated near the Company Gardens in the Cape Town city centre. The Parliament building, with its Victorian-styled structure, was first designed by Charles Freeman. Freeman made errors in his calculation of the foundation and hence the supervision of the structure was entrusted to Henry Greaves, who completed the construction in 1885.
Guided tours of the Houses of Parliament are open to visitors throughout the week, during parliamentary recesses. From June to January, tickets for a seat in the Parliamentary Gallery can be bought to attend Parliamentary sessions.
