Description
The International Convention Centre (ICC) in Durban, now called the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre, is one of the most advanced conference facilities in the world. The venue has the largest area of column-free, flat floor, multi-purpose space in Africa. It was named Africa’s Leading Convention Centre for 10 years by the World Travel Awards, and voted amongst the top 20 convention centres in the world by the International Association of Convention Centres (AIPC).
The ICC is fully air-conditioned and consists of 6 convention halls, 3 outdoor courtyard venues, 25 meeting rooms, and state of the art technology. Operable walls allow for increased flexibility, catering for a total of 12,300 delegates and raked seating for 3,800 delegates. The ICC Arena has full technical capacity for live broadcasts as well as house lighting suitable for TV production filming. The centre is fully Wi-Fi enabled and there are two on-site generators that can power the centre in the event of a power failure.
The ICC has hosted plenty of noteworthy events, such as the International AIDS Conference in 2000, the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting 1999, and the Non-Aligned Movement in 2004, preliminary draw for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, Final Draw for 2013 African Cup of Nations, and the COP17 meeting in 2011.
