Kosi Bay Beach

Kosi Bay, iSimangaliso Wetland Park, KwaZulu-Natal
+1

Description

Kosi Bay Beach is a lovely sandy beach situated in the Kosi Bay Nature Reserve, forming part of the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Lying parallel to the Kosi lakes and long strip of sand dunes, interrupted by a sandy estuary, the beach’s beauty has to be seen to be believed. Access to the Kosi Bay estuary and beach is a 45 minute journey that requires a 4-wheel drive vehicle, with magnificent views of the lake and sea from the top of the dunes.

The beach is a fantastic spot for dolphin and whale watching, particularly during the winter season when Humpback whales migrate to the warmer waters of Mozambique to calve. If you visit during the summer months of December and January, you can spot hundreds of loggerhead turtles pull themselves up onto the beach to lay their eggs.

Please note that Kosi Bay is in a malaria region, so be sure to contact your doctor or travel clinic for advice and medication before travelling.
