Kruger National Park South
Description
The closest gate to the world famous Kruger National Park is around 475km from Johannesburg and provides immediate access to the Southern Region of the park.
Although the Southern Region of the park is relatively small, it offers the best opportunities for game viewing. This area is greener than the north and sustains a wide variety of game in great numbers. Popular camps include Satara - which is well known for the large number of lions in its vicinity - and Olifants camp with its panoramic vista of the wetland plains around the Olifants river.
The reserve has an incredible range of wildlife. From dry savannah with roaming herds of impala to dense brush concealing predators like leopard, the Kruger offers many fascinating sights.
Because driving over 40kmph is not permitted in the park, a journey from north to south takes in the region of 10 hours of driving time. This makes it crucial to plan your trip carefully. The gates close at dusk, as driving is not permitted inside the park after dark, unless on a certified game driving vehicle with a game ranger.
