Le Roux Townhouse
Description
The Le Roux Townhouse in Oudtshoorn, Western Cape, forms part of the C.P. Nel Museum complex and portrays how life would have been as an ostrich feather baron of the early 1900s. Ostrich feathers were popular and expensive accessories in Victorian and Edwardian Europe.
Built in 1909 during the middle of the Ostrich Boom, the townhouse includes pieces of Cape silver, valuable porcelain, and authentic period furniture. The townhouse was declared a National Monument in 1980.
