Long Street, Cape Town
Description
Long Street runs though Cape Town CBD parallel to St George's Mall and it is the very heart of Cape Town's nightlife. The street is lined with old Victorian buildings ornamented with wrought iron but despite this classical exterior and the cultured experience it presents during daylight hours, the street presents a more modern and lively experience by night.
When darkness descends, the street is abuzz with people, and the variety of entertainment options is simply staggering. From hard rock and techno to reggae and smooth jazz, you can find any type of entertainment on Long Street. Street vendors set up shop up and down the street to serve the clubs' patrons, but if your pallet is somewhat more cultured there are also a variety of excellent restaurants offering cuisine from Indian to Moroccan to Italian foods that stay open late.
By day, the street is still a worthwhile experience dotted here and there with African curio markets, boutique clothing and design stores, pawn shops, second-hand books stores, and alternative coffee shops.
