Marina Beach

Description

Marina Beach and tidal pool is a wonderful stretch of sand that lies just south of Margate, between the villages of San Lameer and Southbroom, on the southern KwaZulu-Natal coastline. Bordered by the Impanyati Nature Reserve on the south, the beach is one of the most naturally unspoiled beaches on the Hibiscus Coast. The excellent facilities, easy access for the disabled, shark nets, and the presence of lifeguards throughout the year have earned Marina Beach Blue Flag status.

Although it is less well-known than other south coast beaches, Marina Beach has been called the “Honolulu of the South Coast” due to its subtropical climate, warm water, soft sand, and cleanliness. Stretching 5km long and 200m wide, the beach offers a great spot for suntanning, games, or even a beach braai.

While the water is warm, there is also an adjacent tidal pool which offers safe swimming and hours of fun for the kids. There are traders offering their wares, disabled parking, wheelchair friendly toilets, as well as Mariner's beachfront restaurant. Next to the beach, you will find Impanyati Nature Reserve with walkways and observation platforms that provide spectacular views of the wetland reserve, as well as picnic sites and nature trails. Between the months of May and July, the annual Sardine Run spurs sharks, dolphins, seabirds, and fish into a feeding frenzy known as the “Greatest Shoal on Earth”.
