Moremi Gorge
Description
Situated east of the village of Palapye in the scenic Tswapong Hills, Moremi Gorge is a spectacular area to visit. Explore the rich historical, archaeological and biological interests in the Tswapong Hills and view the spectacular Moremi Gorge which supports a variety of fauna and flora. The splendid perennial streams and ponds have cut deep gorges in the hills and cliffs making it the perfect breeding grounds for the endangered Cape vulture.
Walk to the top of the hills and view the gorgeous waterfalls cascading into deep spring pools framed by lush mosses and ferns. The streams and pools are home to small fish and crabs which is a welcome source of food for the abundant bird life.
Wildlife is sparse but with the abundance of water the hills harbours leopard, hyena, kudu, and a prolific variety of butterfly species. The cliffs above the gorge are the perfect home for baboons, rock rabbits and dassies. The area is part of the Moremi Community Trust project and an entrance fee is charged. Apart from viewing the spectacular Moremi Gorge, the hills contain many hidden treasures for the intrepid explorer.
The gorge is also believed to have supernatural powers and ancestral spirits which are believed to dwell in the hills. Viewing the Moremi Gorge and exploring the amazing Tswapong Hills is an unforgettable experience, truly a wonderful unspoiled area to visit.
