Nahoon Beach
Description
Nahoon Beach is one of East London’s most popular beaches - a swimming and surfing paradise in the Eastern Cape. Kilometres of unspoiled Buffalo City coastline incorporates secluded beaches, a shallow estuary where the Nahoon River flows into the sea to the north, and a rocky point where a boardwalk overlooks Nahoon reef to the south.
The beach is a popular spot during the summer season, but due to its large size, it never feels crowded. It is perfect for sunbathing or extreme big wave surfing, kite surfing, hiking, or fly fishing in the estuary. The Nahoon reef is famous throughout the surfing community for producing some very impressive waves and it is host to many national surfing contests.
For those who aren’t keen to tackle the pounding waves of the ocean, the Nahoon River mouth and lagoon is ideal. It is a favourite spot for fishing, snorkelling, canoeing, and for families who prefer the calmer waters for their little ones. The East London Surf Life Saving Club is located here and the huge parking area is great for kite flying.
